It makes sense to me. I used to act.

Must remember not to show off the pretty pretty Shuns I have in my office. I finally found ones that have handles I can use! And I have a cleaver!

Why not?

Because the me who's having dinner with him doesn't know he's ok with knives again. I just know we had a huge blowup over a Shun. I've dated and befriended several people with PTSD, and have a decent idea of what a trigger is, and nobody I know has done as well as he has at defusing triggers during the time I've known them. But as far as the me having dinner knows, he doesn't acknowledge having it and isn't getting treatment, because he doesn't talk about that publicly. He also hasn't made more Look At My Fancy Knife posts. So it looks from out here like he's still avoiding the topic. So, no bringing up the Shuns. Not unless he says something first.

Hee. He has made several posts mentioning knifework since, but I see your point....

Knifework, yes, but not about knives, which is kind of a fine distinction, but I've seen triggers with distinctions that fine. And it's the same brand, even. So yeah, dealing-with-somebody-who-might-have-PTSD protocol dictates Don't Bring It Up Unless He Does.

Meanwhile, I'm having whole conversations with the two of them in my head. Most of the opening with inquiries about if they hug strange women from the internet.

Tonight in a meat-person's LJ, he VOLUNTARILY MENTIONED his Shun and gave her advice on how to take care of it. I think he wouldn't take kindly to having them shown to him, but if sharp implements come up in conversation I don't think he'll walk out.

He did? Whose? Where?

Still, Tucker-Me is already there and doesn't know that, and would STILL wait for him to bring it up, because I have had to develop some pretty strict protocols for people who even might have PTSD. (One of my aunts, who is soon to no longer be my aunt, has exhibited behaviors that look to me as if they're consistent with PTSD, and she is known to have a background that would be consistent with PTSD, so if I interact with her, I will treat her as if she has untreated PTSD, because that's safer for both of us. I will not challenge in any way her decision to divorce my uncle, I will not ask her to describe the incident that prompted her to kick him out of the house, I will not discuss domestic violence, I will not mention my evil grandmother, etc.)

Ahem. Not all of my relationships with people with PTSD have been entirely free of emotional abuse. I've got reasons to be skittish.

Bear, any food in particular?

You're the cook.

Chaz is going to be looking for complex carbs and limited quantities of lean protein; Daphne eats anything. *g*

I'm not sure one can be inoculated against Harpy and Platypus.

I'm not sure that any of us would want to be inoculated against Harpy and Platypus.

Against Platypus venom, perhaps. I hear it can be very painful. (AFAIK, none of the various mythical versions of harpies are venomous.)
