I don't know how much that would really bother me. I mean, it might, but I've found a lot of the people I've worked with with pretty non-standard communications patterns kind of refreshing. They generally have not expected the rest of the world to conform to them.
I had a work partner for a good few years who could be extremely abrasive and assertive, and had even reduced other team members to tears without actually intending to (I'm sure he wanted to win the argument, I don't think he really cared either way about the tears). He'd throw all of this in my direction and I just let it wash around me. Out of the office on a course, someone eventually asked how on earth I put up with him, how come it didn't affect me. IIRC it was actually phrased as 'How on Earth have you worked with that guy for 5 years and never decked him?' I just smiled and pointed out I'm the quiet one in my family, everyone else can be just as assertive as my colleague. What other people were intimidated by could easily pass for Sunday lunch when I was growing up
