This isn't a forum game, per se, but it is pretty keen. Echo Bazaar (echobazaar.failbettergames.com) is a website game that uses Twitter accounts as player accounts. The game focuses on exploring the Fifth City in the Neath (short for "beneath"), which is Victorian London, after a Terrible Event occurred that caused it to be claimed by the Bazaar. The Bazaar is a strange place, where souls are bought and sold by the members of the Brass Embassy, and death is not so permanent as you might think (a fact that greatly irritates the mysterious gentleman known as Jack-of-Knives). Players can explore five initial neighborhoods (which have names similar to, but not quite like, several neighborhoods in the real London), and unlock several others through their deeds, including the mysterious Shuttered Palace, home of the Traitor Empress.

I've been playing for several weeks, and find it entertaining. If you're following someone's Twitter feed who is playing as well, you can collaborate on some tasks, which can be useful for training your skills or dealing with things like your Nightmares stat (if it gets above 8, Things happen). If anyone's interested, I'm on as "ebony1442."

I saw a link to that (actually here, I think), but no twitter, so no luck.

I'm playing, as phiala. I blame Bear for getting me hooked, and it has now spread to many of my friends.

You think it's confusing now, wait until you're in a State of Some Confusion (i.e., when your Nightmares stat reaches Cool. That's really interesting.

And they handed out free Fate this past weekend, due to a crash. It's like they want me to waste time! (So very glad I can't do this at work.)

I've just started (as @edschweppe).

And I discovered that if I fail at the "Catch a tabby cat in the alleys of the City" storylet, I am taunted with the statement "There's nothing like the sound of cats laughing."

Damn them for reminding me that I haven't found any of the Cats Laughing CDs anywhere!

Ed, I bought mine at 4th St. (Also a pair of Flash Girls albums, wa-hey!)

I'm doing Echo Bazaar as aegtx, and I'm confused about how the tweet-candle-refresh works. Does it happen to everybody once a day? Is there a minimum number of tweets? I do love the, er, exploratory nature of the gameplay, but I'd like to know how often I can play the damn thing.

I think the way it works is that if you're out of actions and you try to do something that requires an action anyway, EB2 gives you a chance to get ten actions if you tweet their tweet (with the #ebz tag). Once you use that, you have to wait twenty-four hours before you get another shot.

1 Although I have noticed a distinct lack of Emma Bull on this year's 4th St attendees list. Waaah!
2 Echo Bazaar, not Emma Bull.3
3 At least, I think so ...

Oh wait, I got it! You keep an eye on the sidebar, and eventually it *tells* you "retweet this for more actions."

Whew.
