Oh, yes, topic. Ahem. I soooooo do not trust the authors. Bear, in particular, has killed off my favorite character in two of her books now. *eyes Bear distrustfully*

I trust the writers not to do Bad Stuff to/with the characters that is out of character or out of bounds for the structure of the story-verse. meaning I  don't expect the little alien to fall out of bed and wake up and the story to resolve in 'it was all a dream!' or some other stupid way.

I trust the writers not to flinch from taking the story and the characters where they should go in service to the story. I trust the writers to be true to the characters.

Look, this story-verse is based on the idea that Bad Things happen and people can die of it. I don't think for one minute that  anyone on the team is automatically safe from that because we (or the writers) like them. And though I've interacted with some of the characters on LJ and come to like them, I don't cherish any illusions that means they're safe. I trust the writers not to kill someone off just to keep the fans interested, though.

You know, I keep thinking about how Chaz is in Johns Hopkins, and how that's just a few minutes away from where I live, and ...

THUNK!  Oh right, fourth wall.  How could I forget?   Grin

Yeah, I keep reminding myself to send a card--THUNK.

I'm having a hard time remembering what I'm supposed to know in replying to Trollcatz's post. THUNK!

Also, as a side note, I ended up in a discussion about Eliot's East Coker (http://www.tristan.icom43.net/quartets/coker.html) in that thread, and in rereading the poem found the following lines:

The whole earth is our hospital
Endowed by the ruined millionaire,
Wherein, if we do well, we shall
Die of the absolute paternal care
That will not leave us, but prevents us everywhere.

The chill ascends from feet to knees,
The fever sings in mental wires.
If to be warmed, then I must freeze
And quake in frigid purgatorial fires
Of which the flame is roses, and the smoke is briars.

And Daphne posts on her own LJ...

Very non-descript...less info than showed up in response to Anne's LJ but that's understandable.

But I *don't* trust them to give their people happy endings, especially given that two of the four authors have a particular penchant for torturing the characters they love best.

Only *two* of the four?

In the past three weeks I've read Companion to Wolves, and re-read Territory and Nevernever...

I think you underestimate.

The poem is scary perfect.
