You too? I have been looking for ANY mention of this show for years. The fact that I was looking under the wrong name explains most of the problem. Thank you so much. I just ordered the DVD's from Amazon UK. Thank you again.

Excellent!
I swear, for years I wondered if I'd dreamed the whole thing. It was a summer replacement for, if I remember, <i>The Monkees</i>. Which I was devoted to (hey, I was in maybe seventh grade. And I thought Mickey Dolenz was cute.), so when I tuned in and discovered its season was over and there was this OTHER SHOW on instead, I was initially peeved.
Then hooked.
Then forced to spend years trying to find anyone who'd ever seen it and could tell me it wasn't my imagination.
If it holds up after all this time, let me know, okay?

I will let you know how it holds up. For some reason I remembered it's name as "The Avengers" I am sure being dyslexic had some thing to do with it. I was very sick with mono in 1970 (I was 16) and this was on daytime TV. As you can imagine I was a little spacy at the time.

The Avengers is the GREATEST BRITISH SPY SHOW EVAH! Okay, no, The Sandbaggers is better, really. But I love The Avengers with an unholy passion. See Diana-Rigg-as-Emma-Peel user avatar on the left, there.

Indeed That is why I tuned in to The Champions. I admit to not a small amount of confusion at the time. The show seemed to be on a random times of the day. Being bed ridden for 8 weeks allowed me to track the show (I scoured the TV Guide every day). They repeated the episodes constantly, but that was alright with me as I was having trouble staying awake for an entire episode anyway. (I did mention I was a really sick puppy didn't I?)

You know, the idea of having to track down random airings of The Champions is actually kind of appropriate for the show. The being really sick, though, not so much. Waugh. I wish I could send DVDs and a player to you in the past, so you could have paused things when you needed to conk out.

Sandbaggers is awesome. And no matter what I was expecting, it wasn't what I was expecting.

Sandbaggers is love.
I have a Sandbaggers LJ icon, currently not loaded, that says "My fandom doesn't think much of your tradecraft."
You know the kicker to the story, right? About the Mysterious Fate of the show creator?

Talk about meta. We will never equal that meta. (Mostly because, hello, none of us willing to adopt Mysterious Fate for sake of project. I hope.)

Well, and also, still not a spy.
Thought there's a guy who thinks Jay Lake is a CIA agent, and has a web page devoted to the topic.

The DVD's arrived yesterday <bounce, bounce> I watched 8 of them last night. So far it's holding up. So far I have only seen one I really remember, although some scenes seem familiar. This show is fond of flashing back to its self so often that this is not letting me know if I am really remembering. (yet) The music is reminding me more of "The Saint" than anything else so far. I am very happy that the 60's music is not driving me nuts. Some older TV shows' music drives me crazy. The version of the DVD's I bought are the British version with the cast commentary on a few episodes. I have only watched the first so far. What fun. Actors... Just a warning, the commentary is not a peek into their artistic process. The good news is that these are people who are enjoying themselves. If nothing else it was fun listening to them wonder what was going to happen next and how their characters were going to "get out of there". Thank you for the kind thoughts about sending the DVD player into the past for me. I was very lucky that my mother (a nurse) convinced the Doc that I didn't need to be in the hospital and kept me at home (I had Mono with a swollen spleen and liver). My mother was (still is for that matter) very very good at the nurturing end of nursing, so I really had no idea how sick I really was until I was half way through the recovery process. I guess I could have realized that my mother insisting that she change the channels on the TV at the foot of the bed and that I was not allowed to change channels my self may have been a clue, but the fact that I didn't argue with her or cheat is a better indication. BTW Mitch Pockrandt says Hi (he's my husband)

So far the biggest laugh has occurred while we were watching the origin episode. When the camera cut the the altimeter we both cracked up. The altimeter was at 8,500 feet and falling. By the time they crashed it was under 5 thousand feet. I believe the Tibetan plateau STARTS at 12 thousand feet. Ok, ok they may not have arrived at the Tibetan plateau yet, but at that altitude they should have been underground. <giggle>
