I went back to read the locked-but-now-visible entries again, and realized something I'd managed to overlook before. Or, I had sort of realized it, but not let the full impact hit me.

Hafs is "rewarding herself" by letting Daphne come visit in May. It's her one-year anniversary in Idlewood. It's also the day before Daphne's birthday. Which means that the whole thing with Hafs went down the day before Daphne's birthday.

I double-checked. Unicorn Evils plays out over May 12-14. This entry from 2008 confirms Daphne's birthday as May 15th.

.... She very nearly lost both Hafs and Chaz - her family - the day before her birthday. She did lose her sister, in the sense of not being able to see or talk to her.

txanne - I thought you might be tickled to know that your shout out to Chaz appeared right before his first visible entry on my flist. It made me smile, anyway!

I've only just thought to go and look back through the now visible entries and now I want to read them all again more slowly, and then tie them up with everything else. The ECR security questions choked me up.

The passage of time probably helped.

But I'd be willing to wager that Hafidha needing help crystallized things for him. That, and his realizing that he could cook for her as a way to say "I love you", and a way to help her heal.

Also he's in therapy, specifically looking for ways to deal with little things that trigger his panic attacks.

... and in a weird, back-assward way, Hafidha's problems probably actually helped Chaz with his.  Because now he sees that the thing he's most afraid of, becoming a gamma, doesn't have to be the end of the world or the end of his life or personhood, or the end of love in his life.  Because Hafs is on the other side now, and he still loves her.
