Reader, it was a The Man from U.N.C.L.E. novel. Issue #7: The Radioactive Camel Affair. Published 1966.
It was $1.50. I couldn't resist.
Does it mention Duke by name?

"Danny, that's good," his mother said, sounding strange and strained and cautious. "What's--"
"His name's Grayson. He works for the State Department."

Oh, Bear *shakes head*. It's okay, I'm the same way with Dr. Who novels. I think I have to agree with you though. From the little bit I read when flipping through the beginning, the prose alone bothered me a little.
Jim: I haven't really read it, except for the first couple pages, so I don't know if it mentions Duke by name.
Speaking of buying books--Bear, I bought Chill today! I still haven't bought or read Dust yet, but still.

Starting in the middle might be confusing, but that never bothered me.

I, myself, am not very good with starting in the middle of something (hence my attempt at compiling the initial Suggested Reading Order). I know that a lot of sequels, especially in the SF/F world, tend to have sufficient enough recap, I just always feel like I'm missing something. I picked it up because, well, there were three copies there, and the store that I usually go to has a very sparse selection, so I grabbed it while I still could, without having to pay for shipping. I plan on buying Dust online at some point though, because I do want to get to reading it (space operas are a love a mine that I have not had the chance to indulge in much).
In other news, radioactive camels. Alright, 1960s. Whatever you say.

Having watched "Our Man Flint" recently, I can honestly say, without fear of contradiction, that the 60s were a very strange place.

Are radioactive camels at all related to the vicious flying llamas with which they're going to bomb us?

Well, I'd answer you, but my socks are filled with blood. And clearly, we're both suffering from a slight case of lead poisoning.

I am distressingly unaccustomed to people getting BiL references. I forgot, momentarily, what distinguished company I am in.

I have no idea what BiL is. Pity me, for I am having a bad week.

Boiled in Lead http://www.boiledinlead.com/. Celtodelic Rock 'n' Reel (a description straight from the back of one of the albums). Adam Stemple, the lead vocalist, used to be in Cats Laughing with Emma. (He's also Jane Yolen's son, and a published fantasy author in his own right.)

I have Boiled in Lead in my life. I did not connect it with BiL.
