I love it when people I know write really good books. It means I can tell everybody else I know to go buy them.
So: go buy The Drowning City.

Ditto. Dammit. Is on my Amazon SF&F Wishlist, though... (yes, I have several wishlists, divided by category/genre, and including kitchen stuff, why do you ask? Doesn't everyone? )

I'm waiting for my (late)October/November college grant, at which point (provided other necessities do not intervene) my bookshop will remember why they know my name.
(I make them order in things. Many things. And then I collect them at the rate of one or two a week. I'm sure the staff must find me quite frustrating.)

When you can't afford a book, request it at the local library. Sometimes that ensures they'll order a copy. Sometimes that ensures they'll order an additional one.

I can't afford it at the moment either, but my library* already has five copies! And I'm in line behind four other readers. Which seems like a win no matter how you look at it.
* KCLS: King County Library System is one of the 3 or 4 biggest libraries in the US.

And my library now has a request to order it.

I'm waiting for the Kindle version. For some reason, it won't be out until September 1st.

Found this at the local uber mega bookstore the other day. Someone had placed a copy up at midshelf, cover out to grab the eye (the rest of the copies where low to the floor. Stupid alphabetical order) so I grabbed one. Great world building, solid characters and a tantalizing magic system. I dunno how Isyllt has survived as long as she has, she seems to have a penchant for throwing herself into the flames. My only gripe if you can call it that is Xinai, I wish I had a bit more of a feel for the character before she does what she does. Prequel please? It's a huge playground, Amanda has woven so many neat shiny bits into the pattern that she has the potential to write stories in a bunch of different directions. When does the next one come out?

My former Branch/Regional Manager used to work for a KCLS branch and the stories he would tell about the size of them and the system was just insane - and I work in the largest library in our county system. And I work in the largest (geographically) US county outside of Alaska.

It is sat on my bookshelf, and has been for months. I liked it, but would like more as and when the author can supply.
Please?

My home branch is right here in Issaquah (.25 mile from my house. gloat. It used to be closer until we built the new one.), but I know folks at a number of other branches (especially after a recent diaspora of Issaquah staff.) We're one of the medium sized branches but we ranked #5 in circulation last year out of 45 libraries in the system. The system overall ranks third in the US with circulation in 2008 of over 20 million items. I love my library. I enjoyed Drowning City too, to bring this back to topic ;-)

I grew up using KCLS, so this Seattle Public Library crap is pathetic by comparison.

Yeah, that's a new restriction based on the fact that the agreement between KCLS and SPL says that SPL will pay some amount out of their tax income to KCLS to allow you lot who don't pay the KCLS taxes to use the KCLS collection. That'd work fine only SPL hasn't paid their tribute for a number of years. Let SPL know you want it back and maybe if enough people complain they'll make a new agreement. (and you'll be able to check out Amanda's next book even if SPL doesn't buy it)
