No need to treat, but in a "stranger than fiction" twist, would you believe I'm actually moving to Bothell in a month?

And if I might offer a suggestion on the Three Crazy Women website designer plotline... maybe it could be a string of them, like Murphy Brown's secretaries. :-)  I've made a tidy supplemental income being called in to rescue web sites from nutty designers- there are a lot of "artistes".  Feel free to make your own assumptions about any personality quirks I might possess.

BWAHAHAHAHA!  Of course you are!  Well, it won't be open by the time you move to Bothell, but I do hope you'll come in sometime and introduce yourself, and at least let me treat you to dessert.  The key lime pie will be my Sooper Sekrit Recipe!

And Three Crazy Women is a reality show: we're actually doing this, for some godawful reason, and, bar editing, we're stuck with what really happens.  Our web designer is suitably nutty -- his use-name is a number! -- but he's a friend, and his rates are good, and he does actually do good work and get it done on time.

I'd love to meet you once the dust settles for us both.  Key lime pie is my favorite.  Did we know one another in a past life?

Sounds like I'll need to sign up for cable once I get up there- I LOVE cooking/restaurant reality shows (real reality, not Fox "Reality")...  I'm still looking for a cure for my dream of owning one some day.

Drat! I can't play it.

(I disabled gnash* because it chewed through my processor cycles, but thought I had a workaround with totem movie player... and it doesn't seem to be working. Which probably means I was a little too thorough with my gnash uninstall. Foo. Well, if I have time I'd go hunting around and see what needs to be fixed.)

* Open source flash. Because life is too simple.

Install VLC.  I've yet to find a file type it wouldn't play.

Excellent!
I dunno, did you ever live in Tallahassee or central Florida?

It's Flash video.  Make sure you have at least Flash Player 8 installed on your system.  If you can play other YouTube videos, you should be able to play the MG&KF video from that site as well as the other video files I post to my own site.

I'm running 64 bit linux. And try very hard to avoid installing proprietary bits* - though last I checked 64 bit flash for linux wasn't particularly stable.

I had Gnash up and running, but it was eating a ton of resources, and slowed down my video editing. (Nothing interesting, unless you like watching slugs feed - hm, I think I did say I'd post one of those one of these days, though.) I might do it again, but using the gstreamer ugly bits I had a workaround through Totem. Hadn't tried it in awhile, it's not working now, I'm suspecting an overenthusiastic purge of the Gnash bits. I can probably correct that, but it might take more futzing that I want to allocate at the moment.

It's all very fixable - reinstalling Gnash would be pretty easy, though that's not my preferred solution - but I'm not sure when I'll get around to it. I keep myself pretty tightly scheduled. (For instance, this is being written in one of my standard mid-experiment breaks. They usually go to SU...)

* A friend of mine, who is both ordained and a Mozilla employee, has exclaimed in horror that it's like I've gotten religion or something. Look, I was at Microsoft for seven years. [Edit: Actually, I recruited the friend to Microsoft. And I think he spent as many years there as I did. Clearly he's making his amends in a different way.] That's both time to develop a significant allergy, and reason to feel one has some penance to do.

I'm in enterprise IT support, so although I find every OS useful, I'd have to say that none of them have risen to the level of "pain-free."  At home, I'm 90% of the time using my Mac, because it's easier for multimedia and creative stuff.  I have Windows and am hobbying it up with 64-bit Ubuntu, but it all depends on what the best fit is for you.

I get the Anti-Corp sentiments, believe me!  Good luck.  Oh, if your media player handles H.264 compression, let me know and I'll convert the videos for you. :-)
