Yes, that's Chiana from Farscape. She's a Nebari, a 'talented snurcher* and distraction-causer' from a culture so downright scary that even the Scarrans (the series' biggest bads) are afraid to tangle with them. Crichton's little-sister figure, friendly annoyance to Aeryn and Zhaan, D'Argo's fiancee--then not, then friend-maybe-more (those two are complicated). Rygel's mirror-image (only much better-looking). Jool's best enemy. Altogether a lot more than she seems, and fairly fantastic character, no matter what Rygel says. Played by Australian actor Gigi Edgley.
I can understand why Chaz has her on an icon. Chiana's almost as much a feral cat as he is.
*Ie sneak-thief.

Thanks, Cal. I can definitely see how she'd be a distraction causer. But I think I've used up my ha-ha-only-serious sexist comment quota for the decade so I'll just say that the level of "huh?" inspired by that description makes me much more likely to go watch this show than I might otherwise have been.

If it makes you feel better, that's pretty much what Chiana was referring to when she described herself that way to start with. ~wry look~ She has self-esteem issues from time to time. And hee! A potential convert! Definitely go watch Farscape if you get the chance. It is amazing and addictive, not to mention full of black leather. And Australian accents. And puppets, which are--seriously--some of the very best characters on the show. The first few episodes are a bit rocky, but if you can make it as far as 'PK Tech Girl' and 'DNA Mad Scientist', it will all start to make sense...

I'm with Jeffy on this one. That description of Chiana was more than enough to make me seriously consider watching Farscape, which is a show that's never really caught my attention before.

Farscape is bloody brilliant.
It's erratic, however, which is to be expected from something as experimental and weird as it gets--but basically, it's a deconstruction of the Buck Rogers/James Kirk trope: Earth Astronaut goes out into the cosmos, meets weird alien races--and experiences total culture shock, has his moral and ethical assumptions and preconceptions shattered, and is utterly changed by his experiences there.
Also. Ka D'Argo. WIN!
(Chiana is not my favorite character by far, but I can see why Chaz would like her. And in fairness, I do hate Stark and the redheads and Commandant Cleavage far, far more. I was a John-D'Argo-Pilot-Crais-Zhaan-Aeryn-Scorpius woman.)
...god, I love that show. Gotta get back to rewatching it.

And it does it so well. I wonder how much of it was helped or shaped by the fact that the show was made in Australia with funding from all over the place? Physically isolated, I mean, and the fact that the lead and producers might have been from the US, but all the other main characters and most of the writers, directors and behind-the-scenes crew were local. Different perspectives brought to bear and that. And Farscape does have a distinctively Australian take on things at times. Also. Ka D'Argo. WIN!

~g~ D'Argo is absolute win, you will get no argument from anyone on that. Chiana doesn't make it on my list of favorites per se, but I love the stuff they do with her and the way she bounces off other characters, particularly Rygel and Jool, so she qualifies as amazing that way. I am a Jool-Braca-D'Argo-Pilot-Rygel-Scorpius-Crais-Aeryn sort myself, with occasional love for Stark and Noranti, when they think of things to do with her. And Akhna. Oh, how I love Akhna and her scary hat.

I thought Farscape was a one panel comic featuring surrealistic humor. I was confused with Far Side. What did I know?

I found that S1 was already in my queue. :-) The bad news is that Netflix doesn't actually have it. Something about a recall and lots of whining about how long it'd been unavailable. And S1 is selling for $120 used and new on Amazon. Le sigh. And just when I found a big pile of free time, too.
