There is one participant to the scene, not two.
The person being murdered is Viv, the beautiful, sane, non-anomalous Viv who has just had acid thrown in her face, hence the face-peeling visuals, and the person being born is Gamma-Viv. It's the death of personality, not the death of body. (And again it's rebirth)
That was, in fact, my intention. I hadn't realized it was at all ambiguous until it confused everyone so. |

Hm. With aforementioned gold star pointing towards Chaz (or so it seems), a couple of thoughts occur. First, that his mirror anomability could be an interesting source of a bond between him and another.* [...]
* If there is a puppermaster behind the curtain, manipulating the manifestations of emerging gammas, as was suggested at the end of last season Chaz vs. puppetmaster seems a pretty natural face off... but I wouldn't expect such until the final season.
I'm just sayin'. In fact a) I'm kind of relieved that we're getting back to some of these dangling threads and b) I'm not sure what, if any, connection there is between the whole puppetmaster whatever from Not Alone and whoever killed someone who was maybe Hope Mitchell in Cuckoo. (Burned too badly for DNA comparison? Really? 'cause they have her DNA...) Actually, I'm wondering if we should start compiling a list of hanging threads. |

Sorry, sense of humor - I don't recall seeing confirmation that it was indeed her DNA. Though I guess we could assume that if it hadn't been that would have been brought up. |

I think it was just because reading it initially, it seemed likely it was the gamma murdering someone, and then we got confused when she didn't kill anyone. The thought that kept niggling in the back of my brain was to wonder if Viv (nice name choice, that, with its connection to life and liveliness) hadn't learned to project her own face onto someone else, and been complicit in the gamma-hunter's staging. But surely that would be found in the autopsy. |

Her name also reminds us 1 of Vivian, Stephen Reyes' third wife. And of Vivian Cartright, who plays Hafidha on the show. (Even though Ms. Cartright is " always Vivian, never Viv. Even to her friends.") 1Or reminds me, at least. |

coupled with the somewhat uncharacteristic sense of urgency which Todd displays during the interview with Villao:
He dropped his hands into his lap and drove the nails of his right hand into the palm of the left, where the crescent-moon marks would not show. "Then tell me where to look for her alive."
makes me think that they're maybe a Todd back-story component here.
and this of course speaks volumes to the partnership between Reyes and Todd pre-WTF:
"Duke's done a lot of things," Reyes said, and put away his gun.
oh, and interesting that there is no mention of Todd at all in Act V.
excellent episode as usual.

This, and (for me anyway) a strong desire to see something more about the mysterious strangler/Dexter gamma. I went on reading stuff into it even after Bear clarified that Viv was the murdered woman. Because I wanted it to be about that guy. Edited ten seconds later to add: oh god donuts can I have one even though I was totally wrong? |

I've got some Top Pots here. Their Old Fashioneds are very nearly to die for. So good I eat them plain, and I have long felt that half the point of donuts was coatings, glazings and toppings. Also they have raspberry-glazed chocolate cake, and raspberry and chocolate never fails to delight me. (And their chocolate frosted with sprinkles often have other colors than rainbow. They change them for different occasions, including local team colors on game days. So, y'know, you can still have chocolate frosted with sprinkles without it being The Donut.)

I adore anything chocolate/raspberry. Alas, the only doughnut shop in my neighborhood is Dunkin' Donuts. . . . I suppose I'll have to go find myself an appropriate chocolate bar, instead.

Oh, gods, top pots...
One of the weirdest things about living out here is that the local Starbucks imports Top Pots. (I mean, I gather this isn't uncommon.) They're still the local Seattle joint with the great donuts and free wifi to me. Maybe the weird bit is that in Cleveland I will, occasionally, set foot in a Starbucks.
