I love it when ideas just show up like that, don't you? A beginning, all fleshed-out and exciting.
Storytelling games are some of the best games out there. (And I'm sure Steve rocks too, I'm just not as familiar with his work as I am with yours, Emma! Any suggestions on where to start?)

I like Steve's Vlad Taltos series - I would start several books back, if not with the first one written, as Vlad learned some Big Truths as the stories progressed. I believe Steve said that he tries to make it so you can jump in in the middle, though - and the first book he wrote is not the same as the first book chronologically for Vlad. Cowboy Feng's is a fun stand-alone. And if you like the Three Musketeers, you could look up the series that starts with The Phoenix Guards. Here's his bibliography on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Brust#Bibliography .

Consider it motivation. Besides, they are both awfully nice people. It's not hard to bribe them into an autograph  Wink

Agyar is good (well, it's Brust.  What else would it be?), but my all-time favorite is The Sun, The Moon, and The Stars.*  But read it after you're read some of his other stuff.. you get added oomph that way.

Since Agyar is a stand-alone, I think it might make for a good gateway drug starting point.  Especially for people who like large amounts of emotional trauma ... i.e. Shadow Unit fans!

And I am good with the bribing.  There's just a small matter of a FEW THOUSAND MILES in the way.

Thanks for the input, guys! I'll start catching up on my Steve reading ASAP. I think I'll start with Agyar since it's a stand-alone.

I started reading Steven Brust from Jhereg.

Then I participated in a FidoNet Echo discussion of science fiction authors and stories. (there were even authors who participated!)  Someone said Cowboy Feng's Bar and Grill was not nearly as good as another of his books, at this remove I forget which one was mentioned, but that started me on a quest to collect the complete set.  After reading CFBaG I concluded that it was a different sort of story than Jhereg etc.  I liked it.

Agyar is excellent.  I also liked the Gypsy which Brust wrote with Meghan Lindholm.

If you liked reading Dumas, then you'll probably like The Phoenix Guards, too.

Have fun!

Speaking of Steve, are there any plans in the works for him to write an episode one of these seasons?

We'd love that, of course. But we'll have to wait for Steve to find the story he'd like to tell, I think.

Although upon reflection, Steve might just take the opportunity to explain that Hungarians are the original Beta's, and it's just a natural part of their charm.  Wink
