Tim Bayliss from Homicide--at least the first couple of seasons.

So two questions: Am I the only one?

And: Who does he remind you of, if anyone?

One of my very good friends from high school could very well BE Charles Vilette in a very scary way. He's multiracial, stupidly tall and long-limbed, climbs when he gets the chance, is completely and totally awkwardturtle, dumbs down how intelligent he is, all that. He also eats like a cow and is probably about 90 pounds. It's infuriating. I just remember reading Chaz's description and going "...Holy shit...it's Danny."

It's been a while since I saw Homicide... what aspects of Tim Bayliss remind you of Chaz?

Tall, seemingly socially awkward at least in the begining, he always struck me as a bit apart from the team, though cause of the difference are quite difference as I recall--Bayliss being rather well off.

Chaz doesn't remind me of Bayliss, but since I always loved Bayliss's character, I have noooooo problem with this. *g*

I think Bayliss is more agressive than Chaz from the beginning. Not confident, because he's very insecure as the newcomer in Homicide--but he covers it by learning to push back, where Chaz has to struggle with his impulse to become part of the wallpaper. But I can see some similarities, I think.

I will freely admit that I have watch seasons 1 and 2 of Homicide in a long time...though I will be rewatching soon.

I just order S3 from the library--and the book that inspired it all.

I blame you all.

I watched Avatar last night (pretty movie, shame about the story), and while watching it I kept thinking that Jake Sully's avatar the main character) totally made me think of Chaz, physique-wise.

Daphne: You can do this. You just have to stand up on it.

Chaz: Can't.

Daphne: Stand up on it, damn you.

Chaz: On belay?

 Daphne: Belay on.

Strangely, Chaz reminds me of Inda (Sherwood Smith), Skif (Mercedes Lackey) and my little brother. The physical resemblance in all three cases is non-existant: it's a mental/narrative/self-image thing, probably. All four seem to see themselves in the same way.

Anyone else get this impression?

Hmm.  I haven't read the last Inda book, but I'm thinking now of similarities, and I think Inda is closer to who Chaz would like to be, or thinks he could be if it weren't for the anomaly/his background.  I'm thinking of his "down the rabbithole" story, and I think I can see it there.

Also, I adore them both Cheesy

Hm...  I dunno about Skif.  He seems a lot less...broken?...no, tormented...than Chaz.

With Skif it may just be the climbing. I can see Chaz doing cat-burglary.

Philosophy
(Skif)

Oh what's the use of livin' if you never learn to laugh?
Why, look at me, I grew up down among the riff and raff
But you won't catch me gloomin' 'round without a hint of smile
And if I have to do a thing, I do it right, with style!

Chorus:
'Cause if you're gonna be the one to take that tightrope walk,
And if you're gonna be the one who makes the gossips talk,
If its  your job to be the one who always takes a chance,
And if you have to cross thin ice-then cross it in a dance!

Now take the time when I was "borrowing" a thing or two-
The owner of the house walked in-well, what was I to do?
I bowed and said, "Don't stir yourself," before he raised a shout,
"Thanks for your hospitality, I'll find my own way out!"

I'd just come up a chimney, I was black from head to toe-
Climbed to the yard to find a watchman-wouldn't you just know!
But in the dark he took me for a demon, I would bet,
'Cause when I howled and went for him-I think he's running yet!

Take my Companion-did you know I thought to steal her too?
This pretty horse out in the street, no owner in my view-
I grabbed the reins and hopped aboard, I thought I was home free,
Until I looked into her eyes-and now the joke's on me!

2nd Chorus:
'Cause now I'm gonna to be the one to take that tightrope walk
And now I'm gonna to be the one who makes the gossips talk,
Oh, its my job to be the one who always takes a chance-
And if I have to cross thin ice, I'll cross it in a dance!

Skif is...more cheerful and upbeat.

I suppose turnabout would be fair play; after all, Chaz gets burgled by cats (or at least Angry Kittehs).
