Well, if Erik did go kersplat, it happened less than six months ago, and he was someone Hafidha had allowed herself to feel something for, more or less in spite of herself. Mourning doesn't have an expiration date. Plus she has valid reasons to be upset with Chazzie anyway, if she did just find out that, for months, he kept his breakthrough from her, even though they were supposed to be pinky-swearing best friends who told each other everything (at least anomaly-related). Compared to the trust she put in him when she asked him to make sure she never hurt anyone - at the end of Knock on Coffins - he failed the Test of Trust and Honesty.

Very true.

Compared to the trust she put in him when she asked him to make sure she never hurt anyone - at the end of Knock on Coffins - he failed the Test of Trust and Honesty.

Perhaps.  Certainly by her definition.  OTOH, we don't really have a huge amount of info on how she's responded to the presumed revelation of Chaz' breakthrough; it may be that from certain perspectives, she's the one who's failed, or that any such failure is mutual.  Either way the result would be tension, though...

Well, that and the fact that Chaz and Erik were supposed to do parkour that day, but Chaz had to cancel.

See, I'd read that, but had no idea what they were talking about.  And did not mentally match up the dates (see!!! this is why I want (to help make) a timeline fo the LJ entries).  Both you and wiki are very helpful, though...

...and now I'm thinking "Whahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!"

The last time I know of that Erik posted to LJ was at 12:30pm on November 17, where he told Hafidha about the cupcakes and calzone waiting for her at the security desk. Haf's I have to go to the hospital now post was at 3:03pm that same day. The very next morning, at 8:57am, Hafs offered up two tickets to an Amanda Palmer concert that she wasn't going to attend. (Whereupon Chaz wheedles Hafs into going to the concert with him.)

Combine that with the whole "perfect month for a funeral" bit, and the obvious conclusion is that Erik splattered himself all over something early on the afternoon of November 17.

(http://www.shadowunit.org/smf/index.php?topic=504.0 for the contemporary discussions.)

Of course, our PTB are students of the Edward Bernero School of Misdirection, Card Palming and Other Ways of Fucking With Your Fandom's Heads 1. Which is the main reason I'm not fully convinced - yet - that Erik is dead.

1 Assuming they're not fully tenured professors there, that is.

Aside from more "Whaaaahhh!!!!!!" and now some "hmmmmmmmmm"

I am also thinking:  "Damn, those ljs are absurdly detailed, inventive, and well-planned out.  Not to mentioned A LOT OF WORK."

It also makes me curious if TPTB have ever have to change the planned dates of any events bc things like computer issues and, you know, life, mess with their plans to post to character's ljs on certain dates and times.

See, I skipped the Not Worrying Bench on this one.  I went straight to the Best to be Pleasantly Surprised Bench, and have basically been assuming Erik is now Former Erik.

Well, one way or another, we're going to be in for some fun midseason episodes, no?

I'm not sure that *fun* is the word I would use. Gut-wrenching, perhaps?

I wouldn't use the word "fun" either.  I was thinking more along the lines of "devastating" or possibly "hair raising".

"Fun" for the reader-brain.
"Agonizing" for the friend-brain.
