We Who are About To by Joanna Russ? I have not read it so that is a guess based on the clue. Hint for 3) Of course the house is haunted. This one is from an anthology, not a novel. And a new one: 59) Veldt to scrub to fields to farms to these first tumbling houses that rise from the earth. |

61) This is my favorite book in all the world, though I have never read it.

It's technically the beginning of a sort of Chapter 0, since that section is technically part of the story of the book. Also right is The Gunslinger and The Bell Jar. |
