Here's the tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXt-2BmgVbA

And here are the words:

Last year I was a happy man
Young, strong, and without fear,
And then I felt my father's hands.
Some knowledge comes too dear.

I hungered, thirsted, all unseen,
My friends don't know I'm damned.
My soul took wing, its edges keen,
And I alone now stand.

ETA: the name of the song is "Refined Fire," and the last line has been messed with so as to increase the ambiguity.

Thanks! I changed the last line. "Alone" works so much better. The perils of posting immediately after the Muse thwaps you on the head, instead of after you've thought about it some.
