Yay!
She's great. She should come work for our lab.
(Well, okay, there are probably better places. Gods, the ChemEs would love it if she could help them stabilize their diamond reactor. But I was charmed yesterday - one of my new undergrad assistant was relating telling her family about her new project. Her brother said "Only you would be interested in slugs." To which she replied "No! There's a whole lab of us! I've found my people!)

"Strive" is another one of those strong verbs that is becoming regularized as all these Latinate languages continue to eat away at our Anglo-Saxon heritage:
Oh? OK, I gladly yield, then.

She just showed up to do follow up on her last experiment, and the got student who was fifteen minutes late for her meeting with me because she couldn't find my office straightened out along the way. (I was guiltily using the extra few minutes to finish my lunch.) Things have been far too skewed towards wet lab work the past several weeks, but I think the time spent training these two is going to be worth it.

So glad people are liking this! Hope I got the canon character voices okay (insofar as they could be heard over Alby's internal monologue). I really want to see where this goes. Especially the section headings - I can tell there's meaning to them, and I can't tell what the meaning is yet, and I want to know more!
Here's a hint -- all the section headings in 'Alchemy' related to chemistry.

Just prodding the subject, as the story is (finally) complete.

Daphne: You can do this. You just have to stand up on it.
Chaz: Can't.
Daphne: Stand up on it, damn you.
Chaz: On belay?
Daphne: Belay on.

just read this and wanted to say it was excellent! Loved Alby at the mall, and the Reyes bit at the end was beautiful.
You have nailed fanfiction- it clearly feels like *your* story in *their* world (which is the goal, no?)
