I can't believe it's taken me a week to get here! Although, on consideration - yes, I can. Thanks for this - it's brilliant!

I'll be patient. I got two novels working right now, so I feel your pain.

I'm just worried that my English isn't going to cope with a very definite US flavour, but I love it. I'm not even vaguely sure what "it" is but I do love it and will be back. Will you please excuse requests for translations into Queen's English, remembering off course that the Queen to whom I refer wrote Bohemian Rhapsody. Simon

Hello Simon.
It's okay. I'm bilingual--I speak English and American. *g* I blame it on too much J.R.R.Tolkien and Doctor Who growing up. And my editors are forever taking phrases like "ladder in her stocking" out of my writing. ;-)

I taught English overseas for about ten years, seven of them in Dubai. I've spent a lot of time with Brits (and gotten very, very drunk with some of them). Plus heavy doses of Monty Python and Doctor Who. Etc. Etc. And my advisor's British. I can spell either way, can translate from one to the other (though I can't always get -all- the British slang!), can tell you the temperature in F or C with reasonable accuracy and can make equally bad guesses at distances in either US or metric.

he thing I like about British measurements is that we have joined the metric system when even the French haven't. You only have to look at a case of wine. When they scrap dozens, so will I. Also we actually use the metric foot, ie 300mm so most of the time you can't actually buy a metre, you can get three or four metric feet ie 0.9 metres or 1.2 metres. Wow what a clever system.
