OMG! You read the mad science wars? Yep, that's me! Your daughter's a fan? Oh, my. Tell her I squee'd when I read your post, okay? I got into it on a whim, and I've done more writing this year than I have in ages. Having big gangs of fun all the way. I'm still shocked to meet someone who's familiar with the wars. And tell your daughter she should get in on the fun-there's always room for another mad. Wow.(staggers off, smiling)

Where can I find the Mad Science Wars? A Google search provided too many hits.
Thanks.

Okay-brief history. This is the Shadow Unit forum, after all! I was shocked when dancingcrow knew my name....But since you asked-Shaenon Garrity wrote the long running web comic Narbonic. She started a Director's Cut version, where she posted her comments after each daily strip. Fans would comment under that. A joke became a full blown mad scientist story in it's own right. Six months ago, a forum page was started-Comics By Shaenon II(the first time didn't work out). The mad scientist wars is hosted there, as well as forums for the talented Ms. Garrity's others endevors. The wars has mutated into a sprawling, co-operative fan fiction. It's all very silly and light hearted. She has graciously allowed us to play in her world, about 20 years after the end of her story. Here's a link- http://comicsbyshaenon.free-forums.org/index.phpAnd to get back to why I'm here-I found S.U. when I decided to search Emma Bull on the web. She's been one of my favorite writers for a long time. I love her powers of descriptive imagery. In War for the Oaks, she made Minneapolis as real for me as the fay-if that makes any sense. They were equally brought to life. And everyone involved in Shadow Unit just rocks.

It's even stranger when you live in Minneapolis and go to the Como Conservatory, or First Ave, and wander around thinking of events from the novel.

I think I am going to be spending a lot more time over here in months to come.
My thanks to the guys on the Yuku science fiction forum for posting about Bear, and posting a link to her website.

Thank you very much.

Oh, and I found something at the bookstore to read in between times. Hammered. I was looking for something quite else, about neuroplasticity, which I didn't find, and decided to browse around a bit before I left. Very glad I did.

HI All! I have lurked, and now I am ready to speak. I love everything here. I am at work now, looking for all the world as if I am doing some dreadfully boring receptionisty thing. Little do they know how much i am actually enjoying myself.

Hi everyone! I discovered SU in January, and I've spent (too) much of my free time since then reading everything, then looking for things I've missed, then exploring the forums, then devouring the new stuff. I'm feeling slightly bloated, but still hungry for more....
