Anyhow, I actually pulled this topic up because I just re-read Sugar, and it is one that makes me cry every time. It's really well done. Leah, you have serious genius.  Thank you for this episode.

Thank you.  It is kind of you to say.  Smiley

Holding back the heat death of the universe with yarn bombing!

OMFG I just realized something.   I just realized that the thing I keep saying "Oh, I wish I knew something small enough to run in the Sheraton Midtown, next to Global Market, because they don't have enough function space, but the location is brilliant," -- I know what that thing is now.

What that says to me is Shadow Unit convention.  Gathering. Ingathering. Whatever.

I wants it. I wants it enough to make it happen if anybody else wants it and if we've got some lead time.

I am so there! Hopefully.

It's the same bullshit idea that prompts people to tell somebody with clinical depression to stop moping.

I am so totally painting this in giant letters across the back of my car. The garage door.  Embroidering it on the back of my jean jacket. Using the mower to carve it into the lawn. Something!

I am now picturing you embroidering this on a giant garage-door cozy.

Now you've got my brain trying to figure out the mechanics of a giant garage-door cozy...

Coincidentally, I was thinking about the same thing just the other day.

Would you have to do a separate cozy for each door panel, or could you use some sort of stretchy-enough fabric to let it bend?  Would it tie in the back, or would you slip it on like a giant pillowcase?  What fabrics are pretty enough, durable enough, and embroiderable enough to work?  How would you clean it?

Crafts projects are Serious Business.

"His name's Grayson. He works for the State Department."

Rare-earth magnets to attach it to the (presumably metal) garage door, perhaps. Otherwise the thing would foul the tracks, and you don't want that.

I always put that one down to 'no idea' rather than 'idea'. Distressingly common, even on disability boards Sad

However, some kind of cozy for use in shipping wouldn't have the fouling-the-tracks issue to design around. Hm.

I will keep you (and everybody else) posted. Might be a lovely ingathering of people who already post about Shadow Unit on line, people who read eps but don't post about it, and new innocent victims readers who are just making their way through the Reading Order page -- or haven't even found it yet.

It could be pretty darn cool. I hope it can work, and I suspect if it does, it might be cooler than I can imagine, which is incentive right there.

I'm rereading the ebooks and this bit from "Sugar" struck me last night:

Quote
Ginny Greenwood stuck her chin out. "I did not study advanced biology for ten years to be put off by a pack of teenagers and some website. I learned."

In reference to how she handled Susannah's being bullied on facebook.

I wonder what Ms. Greenwood has been learning since Susannah went into Idlewood. Seems like that 10 years of advanced biology would be kind of useful.

Very good point, but does she just learn, or does Professor Greenwood also teach what she learns? And if she does, then how do the lesser PTB (i.e. Celentano, not the greater PTB) feel about that kind of security leak. Because those security leaks are building inexorably, there's Dyson's group, and the family (I hesitate to call them parents) from Hope is Greater than Love, not to mention the mysterious Gamma-hunter and/or puppetmaster. And if beyond them there are the news stories, which now have three multiple murders of children by the entire class-load (Not Alone, Unicorn Evils, Hope is Greater than Love) to potentially be linked together. I get the feeling the lid is about to blow off...
