Okay, here's the theory:  Foreshadowing shows that Hafs is eventually going to go bad, and Chaz is going to be there.  Unsure if he'll be able to act.  Mind you, I hate this theory, but

"Hafs?"

"If... if anything bad happens?" She held up her pinky, crooked. "Promise me you won't let me do anything like that to anybody, man? You'll do what you have to? Pinky-swear?"

"You won't." He hooked his own pinky around hers, feeling the dry warmth of her skin. He hoped she wouldn't notice that he hadn't promised.

I work around schizophrenics and a potential schizophrenic (too young to know for sure yet, but he's got the genetic proclivity and some of the symptoms already), and I've had two close friends who are schizophrenics, so I was a bit leery of this episode at first. 

I admire the way you dealt with it.  Brava!
