The Relative made people like him even though he was using them, taking advantage of them.  Chaz is just a nice guy.

After Hafs' breakthrough, she remained connected to the same WiFi hotspot two miles away.

Ever since she showed up, yeah.
Has anyone else noticed that he has this very strong ability to make people like him? In Daphne's post, ALL of his neighbors like him, even the crotchety old guy.

Oh... me... ummm... sorry. Brain worm attack, and I don't like where it just went. It's like what William does, but benign.

Well, crochety old guys (and women) aren't impossible to get along with; I've almost always managed it, and I don't see myself as all that likeable.

And not everyone has liked Chaz; frex, the "gay-bashing" at Quantico. I also suspect that it didn't operate too well in school (well, grade school & high school) nor in the infinite series of foster homes - which is why he developed the ability to be near-invisible, and stay under the radar.

All IMO, of course.

It's not his fault I'm imaginary and invisible, Nebula!

You're not imaginary and invisible! You're canon!

I think the part of this last Extra that broke me the most was Chaz realizing that he can't even trust his own will to live. Not being sure whether up is down and survival is destruction and does he want to recover because there's some part of him that the Relative didn't break, or because the Anomaly is using him?

I'm trying not to think too hard about how Daphne is bi and her partner is feeling shut out and Chaz has been noticing her arms at the climbing gym and staring at her at the picnic... that was a friendly kiss on the head, right? A "got your back" kiss, an "on belay" kiss.

Ow.

That about sums up my thoughts on that, too.

It occurs to me that Daphne's still on belay.  He may not be saying all of what's going on in his head, but Chaz is trusting Daphne in that same way but for different reasons now.

I suspect Chaz of developing "likeability" as a skill, for social defense, and using his pattern-reading Betability to make it particularly effective.

The situations where it hasn't worked are one-versus-many social setups (Quantico, for instance) where there may not have been a single way to behave that would rate him as not-a-threat and easy-to-like.

(Alternatively, nervousness in Quantico may have increased his levels of likeability to the point where fellow agents-to-be felt an uncomfortable level of attractedness to him... )

Further theorizing awaits more canon.

My take on that is that Chaz's not-a-threat default is a liability in situations like Quantico and schoolyards where "don't      with me" is the expected defensive posture. Chaz seems to project "please don't mess with me" instead, which is too meek for the tastes of the testosterone-poisoned.

Knitting is a common displacement activity in hospital waiting rooms. It's constructive fidgeting, and it can be as brainless or complicated as you need.

So knitting would be something for Daphne to do while she waited.  Except she doesn't knit, so she was reading while she waited.

All in that Chaz in-head shorthand.

So we finally get to see Frost's visit to Chaz in the hospital.  Huh.

I wasn't really shocked at Frost's backstory, but the fact that she revealed it at all was interesting.  I'm going to have to think more about this vignette.

Holy. Something-or-other.

So, Frost's father killed her mother. And there's this in her bio: "She was orphaned at age 16, when her father--her only surviving relative--was killed in a car accident that Frost walked away from." Oh, my.

And an origami platypus? I'd bet she either looked up directions, or invented them, specifically for Chaz.

Who'd've thought a visit from Frost could be, in a weird sort of way, comforting?
