If you're using Firefox - and if not, why not? - there's a plugin called 'Leet Key' which allows you to toggle text to and from ROT-13, amongst other things.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just discovered Shadow Unit last week and the boards this week. I'm in the process of reading everything so that I'm all caught up and won't always look like a complete newb when I post. Having these in an easy to find place sped up the process for me. I'll play the game next time, this time I just want to consume everything as quickly as possible. Yay!

You mostly have to have participated in ARGs (Alternate Reality Games) and the discussions about them to be familiar, although I think it turns up on the slightly more mainstream Making Light from time to time as well. |

ROT13 has been in use in USENET discussions (now mostly accessible via Google Groups) since some time in the 80s, or earlier. Uphill. In the snow. Both ways.
I think it was also used on some BBS systems.
