So, I was kind of thinking of heading up to Penguicon next weekend. I've not planned for this at all, but I realized there's several authors there I like and would like to listen to talk, the drive would be do-able, and my schedule should work out. But, I've never been to a SFF con before, I'd be going by myself, and I'm not entirely sure what you do at these things. Is it mostly listening to various authors debate x subject? Would it be worth going to on a whim?

I haven't been to a Penguicon, but I've been to several Michigan conventions, and I think I enjoyed them all. Since you're tempted, go and give us a report!

Sarah and I will be at Penguicon.

Um, what one does at cons... one hangs out in the bar and meets people between professional obligations and overpriced meals. *g*

Penguicon is a ton of fun. Friday morning there is a field trip to a nearby shooting range (registration on-site). In addition, there's things like liquid nitrogen ice cream tutorials, panels, a dance, a dealer's room with baubles and books and geegaws, and so on. Cons usually also have art shows and so on.

Sounds much like the local cons here in West. Aus, with the exception of the field trip to go shooting. Interesting idea, though I'm not sure if it'd be a good one or a nightmare here. I suspect far more nightmare, overall.

Snacking, folks, snacking. I don't know where you got any other ideas, and frankly I'm not sure I want to know =)

Hm. I think, unless something dramatic happens this week, I'll be there.

Well, I got my copy of Whiskey + Water signed at I-Con last weekend, but since no Shadow Unit conversation happened, I'm pretty sure that doesn't count.

If anybody else is liable to be at Valleycon in Fargo this October, I'll start planning for a themed  con suite...

Well, my nametag did say "Malthus", and I did ask you to sign it to my real name...  yeah, I thought about bringing it up, but I wasn't sure if it would be cool while you were signing (even though it wasn't that crowded at the time).

N.B. I was also the guy asking all the questions at the "Writing Historical Fiction/Fantasy" panel (with Doyle + MacDonald).

So...with everybody but Amanda Downum scheduled to come, more folks need to come down (or up) to 4th Street Fantasy in June.  We've got about as close to a Shadowcon as we might get.

If I can afford it, I'll be there.

The big question is if I bring a LARP down with me.
