It's just those tiny things that keep me tuning in for sure.

Worth sought the truth like a grail knight. Brady supposed he shouldn't be surprised she would wear its favor on her sleeve in personal matters as much as in her work. He felt a little hollow. You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

If I was hit on the head by the correct anvil* then OMG how cool is this? O, the potential for angst!!

I've gotten two three entirely different anvil hits from that, so far. (Ow!) The later one was along the lines of having the courage to even have a non-superficial relationship.

Wonder how long we'll have to wait to find out? (Five year story arc? *whimper*)

ETA changed from two to three, 'cause the third anvil landed right after I clicked "post."

*chuckle*

(I need a little anvil icon, the size of the smilies, here!)

Either Brady is also deeply closeted, or he's got an unrequited thing for Daphs, or he envies her that courage to care that deeply about someone.

Or, knowing these writers, there's another anvil up there waiting to fall. Or several. The reverse of "turtles all the way down" could be "anvils all the way up." Smiley

I think this vignette happened right after Daphne joined the team, so I don't know if he'd have had time to grow a proper Thing for her.

Jeez, now I sound like he's nurturing shoggoths too.

Oh! right, I'd not paid all that much attention to the datestamp, was in too much of a rush to get to the story.

I've *got* to get myself a shoggoth... Smiley

It's after Episode 2, wherein Daphne mentions to Hafidha that she's seeing someone.

I got myself one, inspired by Chaz's LJ, and I am very happy with it.  I named him George. George is my friend.   Grin

I got a similar twitch reading this. The question I also kept asking myself is, why that scene should be from Brady's POV if Daphne's coming out isn't significant for him in some way, also. Of course, his eyes could be used to help us observe somebody else's reaction, but everybody else seems quite cool and matter-of-fact with it.

Also, he keeps stirring the conversation away and giving Daphs a way out.

Poor Cowboy, so closeted...  Wink

Am I the only who hopes that Cowboy is not gay, but is closeted about something else...like something related to the anamoly?  I mean I can't see him caring too much about the gay thing, except for being private about his social life in general and liking to confound expectations.  But that whole "gammas are MONSTERS" thing makes wonder if he has had some contact with the anomaly (or is some third type of anomaloid?) that he is hiding.  Methinks the Cowboy doth protest too much.

That's kinda what I was wondering--about the misdirection-anvil, I mean. We know Brady's not entirely rational on the subject of gammas. But once he flayed Daphne at the end of s1e01, she's one of his people. So from then on, he's going to defend her with everything he has. (She put up an LJ entry where he cuts a pair of sniggering Feebs off at the knees on her behalf, f'rinstance.) This thing with the picture could just be him trying to make sure that one of his people isn't hurt by the rest of his people.

Sneaksy tricksy PTB, making me cogitate on my vacation!

I think he's got more than one secret.  My theory about his admiring Daphne's determined honesty is that she's open about her personal life and he, for reasons we'll no doubt encounter eventually, believes he can't be.  I think a secret like being deeply closeted gay is too simple.  Whatever he's hiding is more complex than that.

I think that he's probably not just hiding one thing.  I think he's one of those Characters.  You know, the ones who you think you've got them figured out and then they turn around and anvil you again?

Yeah.  I'm pretty sure he's one of those.

Well, I definitely get the feeling that it's not that he's gay, and I think that whatever secret he has about the anomaly is probably a part of whatever secret he's thinking of here, but however accepting he might be of Daphne, if he was gay, he'd probably have a very great deal of internalized homophobia.  A Texas cop?  That's a huge amount of it that he's received socially.  Hard not to internalize it at that point, even if one is willing to accept homosexuality/bisexuality in others.
