As are all of you. I delight in reading everyone's responses, not just the ones I agree with...and not just the ones I don't agree with, either. (Me, contrary? Phooey!) So I would be very sad if anyone felt he or she had to withhold her or his feelings and opinions to be accepted here, or worse, felt this wasn't the place for them because of it.

As long as we're polite, mind you. And kind.

I gonna make more tea and take it anywhere people need some, especially if they want to talk about the emotional dimensions of the latest episode.

Um. Is there an ETA for next content, or are we gonna have to wait and see?

New content next weekend. Possibly every week following, or every other week.

New episode first Sunday in August.

It's 4x00, "Walking Back to Houston," a Very Special Episode.

Shot early in the run of the show, and never aired due to a presidential speech, it's now being aired out of order to cover a contract dispute.

Mmmmm, tea. And maybe gingersnaps, maybe.

(Hey, did you know that gingersnaps dunked in single malt are amazing? It makes the ginger component super-hot! I know, I know, dunking cookies in single malt, heresy. But no kidding, nom freakin nom!)

Oh. Oh, dear. The subject has come 'round to food, and this time I DID IT.  Roll Eyes

Apparently there's plenty of spammers who think we've got a tentacle pr0n bench. And they want to sit on it.

Hand me the shovel, Myrtle, there's another one!  Grin

Mm. Most of you know I do neurobiology and biomechanics. I don't think I've talk about the soft body robotics work recently... mostly because I haven't been doing much of it. Anyhow, one of the things I've been playing with is building a hydraulic and/or pneumatic tentacle out of silicone. (Sylgard, my dear friend. Gods I love the stuff.) It seemed like a pretty reasonable place to test some basic soft body concepts.

I actually got really far into discussing this online once before anyone pointed out the sex toy application. (Apparently many people in the conversation assumed that was the obvious context. Um.) Oh, dear.

And then it occurred to me that making and patenting the thing could be pretty profitable. Even better... my lab, like many labs, has more of less constant funding problems. If I got the patent, I could leave it to the lab... and watch my fairly conservative PI squirm. (He fruck out when I mentioned prototyping biomimetic robots with condoms. And really? *Everyone* uses condoms for that. It's pretty much the default material. And he wants me to cut up gloves instead. Phooey.)

So, um, it's not something I give a lot of priority to. But eventually I guess I might get exiled to the tentacle porn bench.

Tell him that condoms are stocked on US Navy nuclear-powered warships specifically for use as radiological isolators.

I used to manage the Reactor Controls Division spare parts on the old Ustafish, so I speak from experience.

Oh, Ghu. They're renumbering the episodes again!

August 7 2011 S04 E01 "Walking Back to Houston" [Polk]

Also: contract dispute? That bodes ill.

OTOH, maybe we'll get another episode with Daphne in it?

Eventually, you might get to BUILD the tentacle porn bench.

Just for the record, I am not going anywhere near the tentacle porn bench, particularly if the bench involves actual tentacles. (Though some of the Japanese miniatures are a hoot.)

Eek. Let's not.

(Though if it were, I would have to read it. I don't think I could manage not to.)

Rather than jump to conclusions, I will do my best to gently ask a question or maybe two:

Are you sad and missing Daphne, and thinking that another episode with her would help you with that?

(Mileage on that sort of thing varies widely, I am pretty sure. When I am grieving somebody and then suddenly stumble across a photograph of them, it's usually a wind-knocked-out-of-me waterworks-go-on kind of occasion.)

I expect the tentacle pr0n bench to build itself.

Oh, me, too! On the other hand, August is a ways off and it might be easier to deal with a new-to-us episode with Daphne in it by then. But right now, the thought of reading a new episode with Daphne feels like salt in the wounds.

To me, that is. And if it still feels like that in August I can wait to read said episode until whenever it feels doable.

Huh. I don't have a problem rereading episodes with Daphne in them. There's sadness there, but not the same as the idea of reading something new with her in it. I wonder what that response comes from.
