I've just elevated hawkwing_lb aka Liz to the rank of Spam Assassin in order to deal with the mass of Russians selling narcotics that have been washing over our shores in the past two days.

I'm still looking for one or two more volunteers.

(I already did the probably-scaring-the-neighbors loud squee last Wednesday when that Kindle showed up at my door...)

(thank you!)

Yer hired.

Basically, once you have your superpowers, when you click on a member's name, you should see the options to "Ban" and "Delete" in the left hand column.

When we find a spammer, we ban, then we delete. (and go ahead and ban on IP. Sometimes you can get two or three at one blow that way.)

We try to make sure new people aren't just shy. Some indications of a real person: they have logged in more than once, for more than a minute or two. They have posted something that's useful. Their photo is not a model or actor. They link to a website that's somebody's home page and not a site selling narcotics. *g*

You'll get a sense for spammers. For example, email addresses like asdfallkj@gmail.com are probably not real. You can also google IPs; if it appears on the Project Honeypot webpage, you can ban it.

Yahoo.uk addresses are nearly ALL spammers.

Delete the post too, or is that handled by BanAndDelete?

Does that take care of sending the meat to Hormel for canning, and the posting of their payment to the keep-the-goodness-flowing account?

There are payments? (Also, yeesh. Leave the computer for half an hour, and they're all over the place. Pesky things...)

One might almost find their proliferation...anomalous.
