I think I'm going to keep Tiger's hiding-under-the-dresser trick in reserve.
After hiding the dresser under the pillow fort under the FRTFO Bench, that is.
yanno - the FRTFO bench is going to get kind of precarious on top of all of that stuff Basement. Well, given the sheer amount of stuff under there more like an underground lair with a network of tunnels. FRTFO Bunker, good against all kinds of fallout.... Okay, what I was trying to say: a FRTFO Bunker might be easier than an all-out Sekrit City! ... but I might still want one. We can haz Sekrit FRTFO City too! http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article584503.ece http://www.subbrit.org.uk/rsg/features/sfs/new_page_5.htm

I suggest that we have now begun the official SU real-estate shopping list. I like the Minnesota writer's retreat for deltas in the "real" world. And the British Bunker (aka FRTFO Bunker) is where we'll all meet on the other side of the fourth wall... since the use of http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article584503.ece as a summer camp is proscribed. I think it is big enough for Inkrose's greenhouses and a bakery/exotic food/wine/espresso-supplied annex of the Night Kitchen. And the team's clearance will get them in right through the military base front door! 'Cause my fandom knows how to FRTFO in style. Sekritly.

Won't you be my neighbor?
We can put up tents in the greenhouse. Or at least I was going to... So we can be sure we're keeping on top of any potential pest issues and such.

My plan, someday, when I am a best-selling authoress, is to build a heated conservatory that doubles as an office.
Because then it's a tax writeoff. And a cure for the winter blues.
And I can grow my own meyer lemons and caracara oranges and grapefruits all year. And figs. And bougainvillea. And a coffee bush. And suchlike.
Yes, fantasy is what sustains us. Want to make something of it?

Along those lines, but writ small, is the reason I'm a so hopeful to get better insulation in the sun room at the new place.
So, by current place, we're leaving the (substantial) living room and dining room to be Zendo space.* But that means we won't really have a place to put a table and sit and eat on the main floor (it's a good sized kitchen, but a breakfast nook would be pushing it). And it's useful to be able to sit and work, or sit and eat, near the kitchen.
There's a glassed-in sunroom. Except, it's all original glasswork c. 1920 - which is lovely, but which leaves it kind of three seasonal. (There are some storm windows. I'm hoping we could add more...) The exposure isn't great, but it's still a lot of ambient light - and we are well equipped to provide more light. I'm hoping we can use it the way we've used our diningroom (which gets great light) here - line the windows with plants, and have enough room for two people, chairs, laptops, tea stuff, and food. I actually bought my first full spectrum lights for plants... but quickly found how much I love them, too.
* I'll also be teaching in the living room when we're indoors - and the neighbor across the way wants me teaching in her outdoor workspace when we're outdoors.

Bear, how about if our Sekrit City connects to the Como Zoo Conservatory?* (It is a magical place; I'm sure there is some tunnel infrastructure beneath.) *Yes, all things in my world come back to WFTO. Because: Yes, fantasy is what sustains us. Want to make something of it?

I'm such a dope. Why did I never recommend the Conservatory to you, Bear, when you were last visiting the Twin Cities?

Because you didn't know about my conservatory fetish?
Mark Twain had one. Surely it's not too much to ask.

Mineral water piped direct from the Lethe, no less. At least that's what the plans say, the plumber couldn't remember whether he followed the plans. Or his own name now I come to think of it.
