I loved seeing SU from a newbie (Daphne's) POV. And how the characters, their quirks and hidden undercurrents, are being fleshed out. It's cool trying to associate the characters that we know through the LJs to what's presented in the episodes. Very multi-dimensional. Can't wait for more!

I stayed up until 2 am to read it, and it was well worth it.
It's a little odd reading a story about people whose LJs I've been reading. (It makes and odd counterpoint with ace_cub_reportr doing Penfield imitations) but it is nice to 'see' people.
The combination of Daphne's first day and Chaz's first field work made a nice entry point int o the world.
Chaz driving...OMG.
And ritual suicides in North Dakota. Poor Duke.

Chaz driving...OMG.
Reminded me of Ziva from NCIS. Well, until Chaz started with the math behind why the car would fit in whatever small place there was for it, then it became "Oh. Chaz takes risks, but not with other people's lives, and and and..." And of course this gives Daphne another sort of initiation, no? Yet another bit to OMQsquee! over.

I loved the casual 'but look, there was totally no danger, see?' feel to Chaz explaining that he wasn't driving like a maniac. And it reinforces my belief that Chaz will take suicidal risks* with his own health/happiness/etc, but not others. Which isn't to say that he won't use his abilities to safely do things that non-jammers couldn't possibly do safely. (*) That boy has a far too low opinion of his own worth, to his 'family' in the WTF, and to the world in general because of the trouble he helps prevent. I wonder when someone on the team will sit him down and disabuse him of this illusion. Someone will, and the odds are favouring Hafs, Daphne or Mom just slightly over Duke, with Reyes, lagging well behind, and Lau/Brady fighting it out for the dark horse slot. I guess I should start looking into NCIS, just to see why everyone else thinks so highly of it too. *fake-long-suffering-sigh*Much love, Emma, for the wonderful pilot episode.

What bugs me about his driving is that he doesn't seem to be taking into account the reactions -- and reaction times -- of other drivers. "Seem to" being a highly operative phrase, of course.

I used to watch NCIS, because I adore many of the actors, but I have to warn you, it is dumb with a side of dumb. (I eventually had to give up because I was giving myself vocal strain yelling at the TV.)
And yeah, I am going to put in the opinion that putting Daphne in the car with Chaz without a word of warning was totally hazing. Sometimes, the team is mean.

Not mean, in this case. More like destruction testing. Interviews are all well and good, but you don't know how somebody's going to react under stress until you see them do it.

Nooo, they had no idea! This was his first time in the field, and none of them had ever been in a car with him driving! If they'd known, they might have spared Daphne the phone call. *g* Yes, when Chaz calculated for that space in the next lane over on the 134, he was assuming the conditions wouldn't change faster than he could calculate and act. Usually that's a good assumption. But not always, Chaz honey, not always.

I got the impression that Chaz's driving was a bit of a surprise to the rest of the team, though obviously not as much as it was to poor Daphne. And this is what I love about this place, the behind the scenes stuff that we get from you writing-type-peoples. It's even better than DVD extras. *cheers and thanks you all*

Mom ruins all my fun.
(One begins to develop the suspicion that Chaz might prefer dying of something other than liver failure, really.)

Oh, BTW, If you really wanted the Burbank hospital, that's St. Joe's. Holy Cross is in Mission Hills. I was wondering why Holy Cross by the 134 sounded strange (since I was born at St. Joe's) but I thought maybe they'd changed names, or something. Not that it made any difference to how good the story is. Postholedigger

Lovely story. I confess that I have not visited Paypal to contribute as of yet, as I am waiting for payday. I will endeavor to do so at the soonest opportunity.
And, contrary to Emma's LJ, it was not my Monday that was wasted. Monday was Presidents' Day; us employees of the Stock Market (however indirectly) have that day off.
It was Tuesday that was wasted.
(Well, Monday was wasted as well, but for other reasons.)

Actually, Providence St. Joseph's, if you want to be absotively posilutely precise. But I was concerned they might not want me setting dangerous staff members loose in their hospital. (Though they probably have better things to do than watch Shadow Unit, right? )
