Yesterday, he tweeted: @madgastronomer You picked a good morning to cheer me up. Just arrived in Houston. Underslept. ( http://twitter.com/#!/platyplural/status/13222130749542400) So my guess is deep in the no-cell-coverage heart of Texas.

I'm once again compelled to defend the honor of my home: I've lost cell service maybe twice in Texas. I'm on Verizon, not AT&T, but Houston? Come on. It's pretty much wall-to-wall people all the way from Lake Charles to San Antonio, if you're on I-10, and if you're not on I-10 why land in Houston?

One lands in Houston because that is where the case takes one. And then one leaves Houston for the Un-cell-covered Country because ... that is where the case takes one. (Hopefully, Chaz gets to where he thinks there is no cell coverage and finds some, because Refining Fire was two years ago and that's plenty of time for new cell towers to be installed.)

Let us not forget that the currently-scheduled Season 4 premiere episode bears the title "Walking Back to Houston".

Given the way cell phones work in TV and Movie land, the best place to get nil cell coverage is near a serial killer.

What Anton said. Particularly since he said he'd check (his phone for files) if he got the chance. I think it means he's digging through records that are not computerized, not that he has no cell service.

Given that they're talking about missing people in the same post (possibly rendered untraceable on computer the way Hafs did her birth family), I'd say Anton and MadGastronomer are right.
... it's the more comforting guess of the two, anyway.

I took "go where electronic can't reach" to either mean he's heading for Haf's faraday cage, or she's out and he's dropping off the net so she can't find him (and the other one missing is someone who SHOULD be in idlewood). I'm not sure what I'm hoping for.

I hope you're right. Because the combination of Texas, "I'm about to go where electronics can't" and Chaz running scared makes me think of Refining Fire. And that gives me major ECR. Not to mention putting me on a nonstop flight to the FRTFO Bench. (Also, Bear's latest LJ post says she just finished a draft of "Ligature". This generally bodes ill ... for the characters, at least.)
