I need to bake a cake for my dad which will be delicious without icing/frosting... I probably know what I'm going to do, but I figured I'd check here since I'm always getting wonderful recipes off here.

It's not an allergy or anything, he just doesn't like frosting.

Pound cake, whipped cream, berries. (You can whip the cream with the liqueur of your choice; I often use amaretto.)

Seconding the recommendation for pound cake. One of my favorite things in the world is a slice of pound cake spread with raspberry jam...

Chaz's go-to birthday cake is a chocolate orange one. He posted a recipe way back.

Thanks, guys! I went ahead and made a Lazy Daisy cake from my mom's falling-apart Fannie Farmer, but I'm doing Chaz's chocolate orange for her birthday next week :-)

Okay, on the glaze for the chocolate orange cake: I couldn't find anything that called itself "bitter" marmalade, so I have just-marmalade (doesn't say bitter or sweet). Is this OK?

Should be fine--just leave out the sugar unless you need it at the end.
