I'll have to add some oregano next time.  But you know, I do like using the canned italian seasoned tomatos in stuff like this. I just never thought of adding oregano. Hmm...Thanks, Emma!
And sometimes I make kind of a black bean soup instead of chili. A big jar of mild salsa, corn, black beans, onions, peppers, small can italian season tomatoes, maybe some chicken broth. It should be a thick soup. Add extra hot sauce to your own bowls, to taste. I don't really use a recipe.

kayjayoh:The chili I grew up with (in Wisconsin) is ground beef, tomatoes, onions, canned chili (or kidney, but I prefer chili) beans, and the spices. Served over elbow macaroni with shredded sharp cheddar and a dollop of sour cream on top. I know it isn't authentic chili, but I love it so.

Okay, I have no idea how the above quote appears as I am (almost always now) on my phone.
All the talk of different Chiles and peppers and so on failed to move me. But KayJayOh's exact representation of chili as I know it and I ran straight to the store. Seriously. Filled the whole 7qt crock pot. (can't get creamette noodles here or it would have been perfect.) Finally, a "food" thread I can love! <yes, laughing at self with invitation to all to laugh along.)

Daphne: You can do this. You just have to stand up on it.

Chaz: Can't.

Daphne: Stand up on it, damn you.

Chaz: On belay?

 Daphne: Belay on.
