Although, when I was 15, Chaz's advice would have been 100% useless, because I was way too shy to actually approach any boys I was interested in. I stared at them when I thought they weren't watching and then avoided them when they tried to talk to me because I was totally socially incompetent.

Me too.

Chaz did give a good Big Brother response, although that contradicts the parental response, which is "You are not allowed to date until you are 36 so don't worry about it."

Well, Chaz did appear to be joking about using the mirror on a HS boy just to find out if he (the boy) liked Rebekah. Which could mean that he's going to have to use it on some poor unsuspecting HS kids in order to find out... whatever he needs to find out next.

After thinking about what we actually did, I think the usual procedure was to have your friends ask his friends.

Or there was always the classic check-a-box note option.

Do you like me? Check one:
Yes             No

Folded into intricate triangles to show your true love, of course.

But that may have been more middle school than high school.

The resident teenager confirms that Chaz's advice (while sweet) would be not only useless but infuriating. "If it was that easy," Rebekah will think, "I wouldn't have asked for help, would I?"

That's what she gets for not asking Brady instead.

As a still-technically-teenager, well, yes.  But I also made things a lot harder than they needed to be, in high school.  Some of the best advice I ever got was also the most obvious.

Everyone does that, sweetie. It's partly hormonal and partly inexperience.

May I ask not to be called sweetie?  In this context--regardless of your intent, which I'm sure was not to condescend--it feels condescending.

I'm sure most teenagers over-complicate things.  Even more proof that obvious advice can be good.  *g*

Sorry, I meant it to be affectionate, in that your comment reminded me of my former self, rather than condescending.

No worries!  The Internet muddles tone, etc. etc.

FWIW, my first girlfriend actually did ask me if I liked her, when she was 15 and I was 16. (And we were together for 3 years.) Some teens do ask, and sometimes it does work. I mean, yeah, it took months of dancing around the issue, and three days after I kissed her, for us to get the that point, but we did get there.
