Would any of this make sense if I was familiar with London's geography or is it some kind of book/movie/game I've somehow never heard of?
I'll be honest, I'm just as confused as you are.

Oh, phooey--I thought I'd get here before anyone else, with a nice beginner's version of the game: http://www.daemoneye.com/mc.html

Noooooo! Rules like that ruin the game!
The real point, as far as I'm concerned, is to make up rules and justifications for your moves improvisationally. If you actually play the game it sounds like you're playing according to predetermined rules, then you don't get to do that.
Oh, and because I used the Basingstoke Precedent to open, under Bow Bell rules, I'm in Nidd for the rest of this game and the first three rounds of the next. But I got the rest of you playing!

MG, you don't use the Pantagruel Exception? That takes you out for *two* rounds of *this* game.
(The Wikipedia entry for Mornington Crescent is much better than the page Emma linked to, which makes you think it's a real game when in fact it's really, really NOT. The game is how ridiculous you can make the rules-lawyering.)

What, never heard of Mornington Crescent ?It's closely related to three-cornered pitney and fizzbin. But neither are a patch on Calvinball.

I'm perfectly happy to consider myself in Nidd for the rest of this game, as I've already won once, and I'd like to give others a chance. It's closely related to three-cornered pitney and fizzbin. But neither are a patch on Calvinball.
Only if one has the energy for Calvinball. Something I lack at the moment, so I must take my fun where I can find it.

"They play an anglophilic grown-up version of Calvinball between content. For example." My best yet phrase for explaining my intense attachment to the SUfandom. Yes!

Others have gotten in before me, but the answers to your questions are yes, yes, but no.

I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue. What you're talking about, that is. I saw what you did there, Mr Schweppe! Splendid! That allows me to invoke the Alternative Middlesex Clause 1 and select ... North Acton. 1 Marble Arch having precluded use of the Primary Middlesex Clause, after all.

Does North Acton bring on the Matthews Option? If so, I'll say Barbican.
