But I have a suspicion that while all of them have one or two that they can never get over, for Reyes it's every single one.
I meant to say this back when I first read this (but I had to go do actuall work): I love this whole post, but especially that line. yes.yes.yes. And this would be why he does crappy things like not help wibble Chaz. And why next time, when we hear what else he has done, we'll forgive him, when we probably wouldn't forgive anyone else.

Aside from more "Whaaaahhh!!!!!!" and now some "hmmmmmmmmm"
I am also thinking: "Damn, those ljs are absurdly detailed, inventive, and well-planned out. Not to mentioned A LOT OF WORK."
It also makes me curious if TPTB have ever have to change the planned dates of any events bc things like computer issues and, you know, life, mess with their plans to post to character's ljs on certain dates and times.

I'm thinking it needs a general spoiler warning, and a few other entry points into the content (like a link to makito's cool reading order and the Timeline and the other overview-type things.)
I second this.

Thanks
I actually just signed up to be able to help edit the wiki.
And I was about to add the airdates and author's names to the Reading Order (the ones I have so far anyway) but I just wanted to be certain that the extras listed below each episode are extras originally linked to within the episode - and thus the assumption is that they have the same airdate, but are not attributed to a single PTB.
If that's not the case, I'll have to rethink how I was going to add the airdates.

See, I'd read that, but had no idea what they were talking about. And did not mentally match up the dates (see!!! this is why I want (to help make) a timeline fo the LJ entries). Both you and wiki are very helpful, though... ...and now I'm thinking "Whahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!"

I know makito mentioned it before, but some of the wiki wonks have done similarly incredible work sorting the content by internal chronology on the Timeline page: http://wiki.shadowunit.org/index.php/Timeline including a bunch of the livejournal stuff. The timeline is indeed useful and awesome and must have taken a lot of work. But for some reason it's a little confusing for me to read. I think it's a combination of the events listed seeming very random and the formatting not having any heirarchy - other than being divided by seasons. I guess part of what I hoping to help do is make it easier for other newbies that come after me to see not just when stuff aired and when stuff happened, but have an easier time understanding when stuff aired vs. when stuff happened. If that makes any sense at all. And not being a wiki wonk, I'm not sure how to do that and a little hesitant to go around messing up other people's work.

Jenny, if you're ever willing to sift through all that with me that would be awesome. I totally am. The issue for me at the moment is internet access. I have it at work (where I'm not supposed to be doing this, but do anyway) and when I visit my parents house (which I do at least once a week bc they also TiVo CM for me, as I work too late to watch it when it airs). But internet at home is spotty and likely will be for a few more weeks at least. So I'm willing to help, I just might be a little slow at it. (I'm supposed to get it free cuz my city is cool like that, but I don't really cuz AT&T is not cool and my city is a wimp. So I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to boost the signal so it's the closest thing to free.) Perhaps it should be a whole other section? A "read and catch up at your leisure" sort of thing? Perhaps notes next to the episodes or extras saying "you might want to read this lj entry as well."
Like you said, it's hard with the overlapping timelines. Real-time LJ entires, then finding out what they were talking about like six months later.
I was thinking more along the lines of actually doing several timelines. Like, taking your reading list and adding air dates (when we can find them). Then another that does a timeline of TV eps - including the "unaired" ones. And then expanding on the timeline that Jeffy mentions above.

Ummm.... I think he was a Boy at the end of 2007, got ditched, then returned and achieved Notaboy status shortly after New Year's? Around there, anyway. Will have to look again.
So that's what "Notaboy" means. It thought so, but wasn't sure. re: timeline Erik's last post on his LJ was back on Nov. 14th. Hafs left work to go to the hospital on Nov. 17th. And Chaz's LJ entry mentioned up above was on the 21st of Nov. I think I'd be less worried if Erik had postedsince then, but Hafs just hadn't responded. And if Chaz and Hafs didn't seem to be talking about Notaboy himself in the past tense. (I didn't just say that out loud, did I?)

The comment thread here. How long has it been since Hafs went out regularly with the gang? Is this just since she was sick, or has she been less social since all the way back to November, when the call to go to the hospital came in, and Erik vanished. *thinks like a thinky thing* I was wondering about the lack of Erik too. But I hadn't connected it with the call from the hospital. ...aaaaaaaaand I think I'm about to make my first visit to the Not Worrying bench. (that is how one refers to it, yes?)

....I considered including important LJ entries, like cvilette's last post and standuponit's first. But that's going a bit too far, don't you think?
Hey, if you do work on this, I'd be willing to help. The whole timeline of everything has been confusing me, bc the current season is several months behind the LJ entries. And of course, bc we have SU: the web show, SU: the Television show, the SU world as depicted in the TV show/web event (or should that be two things?), and the SU world as the characters experience it*. So there are really several overlapping timelines. The current timeline on the wiki is useful (and thanks to everyone who put it together), but it still takes some research to figure out how the LJ entries fit into the past and current seasons. So, I started working on timelines - but I haven't gotten very far. Mostly just a timeline of airdates for SU: the web show. I think what I have so far is saved in my gmail account, so I shouldn't have to wait until I can get my laptop somewhere I have service in order to get at it. I'll go see and if it is I'll post it here is anyone wants it. *based on something TPTB said about Chaz trip with Hafidha being a lost episode on the TV show, but the TV show depicting more dramatic events than what really happened while Chaz and Hafidha were there.

I just made TexAnne's sourdough flapjacks (a whole wheat version with dried cranberries) and they were excellent. Chewy and somewhat blini-like, which reminds me, really gotta make blinis soonish. hmmm..speaking of flapjacks.....I made pancakes a la Platypus this weekend. (I just got here and already you all have inspired me to try actual cooking rather than just prepacked mixes.) They were very very very very yummy. Also, that recipe rocks. Because the funny bits actually help me remember all the stuff that normally confuses me. Like - which is the baking powder and which is the baking soda. I also scrubbed my kitchen floor.
I must have a book due.
I also find myself needing to clean lots of stuff I usually ignore whenever deadlines approach. Nice to know I'm in good company.

And honey on fries is also quite excellent. Ages ago, when I still ate meat and fast food, I would dip my chicken mcnuggets in honey, and the fries too. Mmm.
Oohhh...I always picked the honey too. I never thought of dipping the fries in it though... I got hooked on fries dipped in BBQ sauce and blue cheese a couple of years ago. The blame goes entirely to California Adventure's Taste Pilots Grill which, aside from being one of the few non-fancy places in the parks with real food, makes a more than decent Blue Cheese Burger. It comes with criss-cut fries that are perfect for scooping up all the BBQ sauce and Blue cheese that falls out of burger.

(Ok, so, in retrospect, that last post was a weird combination of the overly obvious and random. Let's try that again….)
I think what's also really interesting is that both the origin of the SU and our introduction to it center around the idea of a mystery to be solved, rather than an evil that needs to be vanquished…despite the fact that Reyes has defined the anomaly itself in terms of the latter, and Daphne echoes this definition for us in the first episode.
That's what the second installment really highlights to me. That Reyes, the guy that's responsible for creating the unit in the first place, is deluding himself as to why he is there. Yes, he feels responsible to an extreme degree, and he feels this way because he has a heightened sense of what is right and wrong. But his sense of right and wrong seems to be very centered in truth and transgressions, rather than around the idea of being a helpful cog in the machine that is society - something that often requires bending the truth and forgiving transgressions.
I think that's why he has such a hard time dealing with Jessica. His understanding of how right and wrong are defined doesn't really work in her case. She is so broken that the idea of forcing her to take responsibility for her actions is ludicrous. More pertinently, Reyes can't really imagine being so broken as to need to surround oneself with nothing but lies, because searching for the truth is so central to his self-definition. (Sol, however, is the Obi Wan Kenobi of the group - he has perfected the art of telling the truth wrapped in comforting and misleading lies.) So while Sol can make himself a part of her fantasy, Reyes simply feels the drive to shatter her illusions - even though he knows better than most people why she has them.
And yet, in way Reyes is broken as well (though obviously not to anywhere near the same degree). He's so focused on solving the mystery…because he thinks he's the only one who can…that he's willing to do all kinds of not nice things that he would never do otherwise. Just like Jessica.
And deep down a part of him recognizes this. And that's why she bothers him so much. She's a reminder both of what he has become and of what he could be.
I'd imagine Sol knows this too…and that's why he would never ask why Reyes wanted another copy of the picture. He knows it's Reyes warning to himself of what he is capable of, and a way of punishing himself to atone for his sins.
And aside from this all being very fascinating by itself, it makes me wonder what exactly it's leading up to. Because while the latest dvd extras seem to be very much triage for our feelings for Reyes after Refining Fire; I also can't help thinking that what is being built up will inevitably get knocked down again.

You know, you are right, that is rather Interesting.....
I also find it interesting that Daphne is person whose pov we see first. And Reyes is the one that started the group. Which means that both the origin of SU (as far as we can tell) and our introduction to it are centered as much - or more - around they mystery and weirdness as they are around the violence of it all.
Which makes the WTF? nickname rather appropriate. Not that that is a surprise, or anything.
