1  Episodes / Season 1 general discussion / Re: S1 Bootleg Ebook on: November 30, 2009, 05:12:58 pm
For those with something other than a Kindle:  http://zeitloft.com/Zeitloft/Media/Entries/2009/11/30_Shadow_Unit__Season_One_E-Books_files/Shadow%20Unit%20Season%20One%20Ebooks.zip

My take on Season One in e-book EPUB format.  I know it's been done, and more completely than what I offer, but I was feeling artistic and needed an excuse to design some book covers. :-)

Hmnn, new idea.  I'll be buying a new camera in a few weeks.

I'll post specifics, but think of this as a pre- casting call for all those Deltas in the Pacific Northwest.

Do you look like an SU character (rough facsimiles accepted)?  Are you painfully thin with the ability to give intense stares?  Want to play a victim with oozing bloody wounds or other special effects makeup?

I plan on scheduling at least two shoots- one in Seattle (doubling for any random city setting), and one out in the "Seattle country" for outdoors shots.  If you live in the area would like to be a subject or have some ideas on cool locations, please let me know here or by contacting me via my web site, zeitloft.com.

Oh, and creepy haunted loft space with children's chair is taken already (thanks, MG...)

Anyone have suggestions for an excuse to be taking pictures of random, very skinny strangers? Wink

"Wow, you look so much like this character in a tv show I read, can I take your picture?"  And if they figure out what you said and ask questions, send them to the web site ;-)

Jeffy, do you think I'll have time to shout the virtues of SU as the nice young men in their clean white coats are hauling me away?  Cheesy

Ooh, I like this idea, MG!

Sorry, ArtemisHi, but I'm not game designer and ActionScript gives me hives for professional reasons.  Quick- grab Other Brother and get him in to the Delta Initiate program.  Grin

Have I finally found the notorious eggplant SUV?

Okay, I gotta say, this is awesome.

I also gotta ask who does the music (Bow and Arrow).  It sounds like Immediate Music, but I can't find that particular track in my IM collection, and I'm always looking for new music to write to, and this *rocks*.

One of my better nerdy days- I dug into the source music file and discovered it's by APM (Associated Production Music).

Sorry to have been so absent this past month- the move to Seattle ate my brain and I've been slow to unpack and set up of my electronic and computer detritus.

I need to peruse the proffered photo streams and then I'll see what I might be able to use there.  Please excuse the awful, accidental alliteration. :-)

Ooooh!  THANK you!

Color me jealous.  My still camera is no great shakes and has no manual exposure setting unfortunately.

What I am wanting to do with the three different exposures is to composite them into  high dynamic range images, then use tonal mapping to convert the composites back to LDR images.  Stylistically I think that will work really well with some of the other processing techniques that I use on video.  I want to create something dark and somewhat intense.

I have an idea for a collaborative network promo video and associated stills for Season 3, but it would be a real test of SU fans from all over.

In order to create the finished product I'm asking for submissions of digital photos of people, places and objects that look like something we've "seen" or would see from the SU universe.  (If anyone finds the eggplant SUV I'll have to send you something special as a prize.)

If you would like to participate, here are some details:
  • Images need to be taken on a digital camera with at least 3 megapixel resolution.
  • Your camera needs to give you the ability to manually set the exposure value (EV).
  • For people and objects, please shoot your subject against a solid blank background that contrasts with the subject. This isn't a requirement, but if it's practical for you to do so, it will make it much easier for me to remove the background during post-production compositing.
  • For each picture that you plan, you'll actually be taking three separate images.  Please set the EV to -2.0 for your first exposure, 0 for your second exposure, and +2.0 for your third exposure.  There needs to be as little motion as possible between exposures.

In post production, I'll be taking each set of three exposures and combining them into stylized photos and photo objects that can be used to produce still and animated promotional materials for the upcoming season.  I'll happily host the raw images as well as my processed versions for other fans to re-use in their own projects.

If you're interested, let's chat about ideas here.

Am I the only one for whom that red and white typeface keeps looking like it's spelling things backwards? The effect does not detract from the coolness of the clip.

No, to be honest, it has that effect on me, but I chalked it up to repeated viewings during the editing process.  Grin

I couldn't tell you who the source artist is, it's included production music that comes with Apple's Soundtrack Pro.  I'm not a musician at all, and I was doing what one commonly does when editing- looking through my library of stock music for something with the right pacing and length.  Surprisingly, it created nearly the perfect tone to match the visual elements.

"Sucka" works for me! Thank you!

All fixed.  Grin

I love it!!!
Well, except for one teeny, tiny, itsy bitsy thing: "biotch".  I hate the mangling of the word, and I hate that use of the word.
But otherwise I love it, and think it would make a great title sequence, rather than a promo.  I love the ridiculousness of the gangsta style for the two of us.

How about "sucka?"  I can repost it with the change, no problem.  Just trying for the truly ridiculous.

Hah!  Come shadow me for a day, that might do it.
