1  Episodes / DVD Extras and Easter Eggs / Re: Stone Soup on: December 10, 2012, 12:09:43 am

The bike people don't even think of this as charity or specifically doing something nice for him. They are just rectifying a weird situation (Cool People have bicycles, Dyson is a Cool Person, but he doesn't have a bike? does not compute) with what it just now occurred to them that they happen to have lying around.

This! When I lived in SoCal, this was a regular occurrence, either building a bike for someone else or building one for yourself once your extra parts reach critical mass  Grin
2  Cast & Crew / Leah Bobet / Re: Above on: June 13, 2012, 10:29:46 am
What the other Jeff said. I enjoyed it, and I tend to stay away from YA stuff (as I am neither young nor an adult Wink )
3  Episodes / Episodes, Season 4 / Re: 4x04 "Latency" on: April 06, 2012, 07:12:24 pm
Damn you people for making me care so much about people who don't exist. *sniff*

OK, analysis:

The takeaway message from last ep and this one: repetition is going to become a problem for the FBI sooner rather than later.  Gamma incidents are happening in the same places frequently and conspicuously enough that people are taking notice, to various effect.  Celentano's going to have to push a little harder with Justice and the Congressional oversight groups for increased visibility.

And speaking of oversight: Reyes did what now?  I really hope we're not going to end up with a pair of ancillary domestic sitcoms attached to the main SU plotline. =)  OK, so Esther takes over leadership of the team.  Brady is the next ranking agent, and the only other SSA, so he's second in command - unless Celentano sends Pauley Down the Hall to keep an eye on things.  Speaking of SSAs, I think Nikki's about due for a promotion.  And I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed that the WTF contingent of Active Agents Allowed to Have a Weapon in the Field is, with Reyes' retirement, down to four: Esther, Brady, Nikki, Chaz.  There's gonna have to be *some* new blood, budget cuts or no.  Bets that Tan gets a transfer?  Padma's not gonna like that *at all*.  (Alternately, you could roll the WTF back into the main BAU and make this part of their essential mission.  Raise your hand if you want to go into the field against a gamma with Murchison watching your back....)

The entire team should all be 13's, so in theory all of them could try for a 14 supervisor position. I'm curious as to which ones have taken the test though. I'd put money on Lau taking it, and the same amount on Brady not taking it.

I'm torn over which recent Irene Adler I crush over more, Lara Pulver or Rachel McAdams.

You'll just have to embrace the power of "and"!

Indeed!

And. . . I'll be in my bunk  Cheesy

6  Episodes / Season 4 general discussion / Re: What did Tricia know? on: November 27, 2011, 02:39:33 am

The only [ahem] family question I have, really, is Gray.  Danny's got a lot of duty and suppression built up, and he's internalized a lot of macho.  I suspect he'll find a wrong solution on his own, and be forced to change it by circumstances/Gray/the team.  I guess we'll see.

And Gray's State Department; we don't know what he does there, but I suspect he may also have Things He Cannot Discuss going on.

I can just imagine the conversations those two have:

"So how was work today, honey?"

"Uh, it was ... well, I spent a lot of time watching a video, uh, not a very nice video. Also there was paperwork which was uh. Hm. Well, there was a lot of it. And how was your day?"

"I ... also ... did ... lots ... of paperwork. Because um. Unless there was something about it on the news already which there should not have been, we're having a problem with people from Country Name Redacted not doing what they said they would do. So we're trying to sort that out."

"Damn those recalcitrant foreigners."

"Indeed. And people who still want things in quintuplicate on carbon paper."

"Yeah, damn them too. Wait, no, damn them first. Recalcitrant foreigners might have some kind of valid justification."

....I think enough of us here have worked for a federal agency to have encountered the quintuplicate carbon paper form, but in case you haven't: I didn't make that up.

If Gray is DSS with State, he may be involved in, um, more vigorous forms of negotiations. That is not to understate the quintuplicate carbon paper form, of which it took me 4 or 5 before I typed one up perfectly the last time I did one.

I can listen to different dubstep artist in one sitting, but most have such a distinctive style that more than a couple songs in a row would get old. Kinda like listening to ZZ Top, after about the 5th song you are positive that they already played that song.  Wink

The first season of Justified was fun, the second season killed me as he went down the list of everything that a Fed can do wrong  Roll Eyes

I have to give them credit for research though, they added a bunch of nice touches like the battered US Marshall ball cap and Glynco trivia. That, and my better half has a tremendous crush on Timothy Olyphant  Wink

... And now for something completely different. I know the details take it a wee bit off the SUverse map, but the feel of the encounter in this video is all too buggy for me not to post it here. So, for your delight and delectation, First of the Year (Equinox), by Skrillex.

Skrillex has gotten mainstream, I haven't been paying much attention to him for a while. But that was a cool vid.

13  Characters / Charles Villette / Re: I may have found Chaz's next hobby... on: July 14, 2011, 12:54:41 am
I've been thinking about this, and I'm thinking this wouldn't be Chaz's next hobby.  I think the common factor between climbing and BASE jumping is that fundamentally it's you, gravity and the mountain (or building, etc).  Nothing's mediating the experience, as it were.  And there's nothing or no-one else you can blame if it goes wrong.  Okay, BASE jumping has the parachute, but you pack your chute in a more direct way than you build your bike.  So succeed or fail, it's all on you.

Ayup. Even though he drives fast, he does it in anything, and doesn't really pay attention to the equipment. I bet his climbing rack is a lot of mismatched pro that he has picked up here and there as he needed it, rather than the latest and greatest or all from one particular brand name.

...I gotta remember to use this power only for good.

(Or money. If anyone wants me to summon el_jefe, just transfer fifty bucks into the PayPal account for...  Grin)

Does this mean I'm a demon (at least according to SKZB's rules)?  Cheesy

So thankful for the coincidence of Stu. (wait...)

Stu.  That thing we don't believe in?

I believe in Stu.

I think Stu may be Jimbo's brother. . .

A lot of feral anger there, that's for sure (back to Chaz). Not quite suicidal, but some folks get to the point where they want both the physical hurt and the shear exhaustion to drown out the emotional response. You start flipping the coin with fate a bit more aggressively. Among other things. Glad Chaz isn't much of a drinker, although that is often an effective therapy method.

Where's eljefe? I expect him to pop in any minute to say, "Hey, cool!"  Roll Eyes

Hey cool!

Of course, i would just call that singletrack, with no run off.  Wink

Sadly, I killed the forks on my bike, so I'm just a hiker at the moment.
